Austin’s pool interior renovation specialists — founded by Billy Johns and Joseph Johns, serving Central Texas for over 20 years.
H&H Tile and Plaster is an interior-only pool renovation company. We plaster, resurface, retile, recope, and structurally repair pool shells. We do not build pools, resurface decks, or replace equipment. That focus is deliberate — and it has made H&H the most experienced pool interior contractor in Central Texas.
When Billy Johns and Joseph Johns founded H&H in 2004, the company set out to do one thing better than anyone in Austin: pool interior renovation. Twenty-plus years later, H&H has completed more than 10,000 pool interior projects across Travis, Williamson, Hays, Bastrop, and surrounding Central Texas counties. We are certified applicators for Pebble Tec, Pebble Sheen, and all major interior finish systems — and the only certified Central Texas-based installer for all major pool finish manufacturers.
H&H is headquartered on Ranch Road 12 in Dripping Springs, midway between Austin and the Hill Country communities to the west. Our crews work throughout the Austin metro on a continuous year-round basis, covering every geological zone from the Blackland Prairie clay neighborhoods in east Austin to the limestone terrain of Lakeway, Westlake, and the Lake Travis corridor.
H&H was built by two people who understood the pool interior trade from the ground up — and built a company around doing it properly, with no shortcuts on prep and no phone-only estimates.
Billy Johns co-founded H&H Tile and Plaster in 2004 with a background rooted in the hands-on practice of pool plastering and interior renovation. As a member of the National Plasterers Council (NPC) — the industry body that sets standards for pool plaster application, water chemistry, and surface quality — Billy brings a technically rigorous approach to every project H&H takes on.
Billy’s focus on prep work quality, startup chemistry protocols, and certified finish application has been the foundation of H&H’s reputation across the Austin market. His firsthand understanding of Austin’s hard water conditions, local soil dynamics, and the operational demands of Texas climate is embedded in how H&H crews are trained and how every Austin pool renovation is executed.
Joseph Johns co-founded H&H Tile and Plaster in 2004 alongside Billy Johns, bringing the operational and business development expertise that has scaled H&H from a local Austin plastering company to a multi-market Central Texas contractor serving Austin, San Antonio, the Hill Country corridor, and beyond.
Joseph oversees the company’s project coordination, client relationships, and expansion into markets that share Austin’s hard water and geological challenges. His understanding of what Austin pool owners actually need — honest estimates, accurate scope communication, and a single point of contact from first call to final walkthrough — shapes how H&H manages every project it takes on.

In the pool renovation industry, it is easy to claim expertise and difficult for homeowners to verify it. H&H’s credentials are third-party verifiable — each one links to an external record that confirms what we say about ourselves.
H&H is an Authorized Installer for Pebble Technology International — manufacturer of Pebble Tec and Pebble Sheen. Certification requires meeting PTI’s application standards, crew training, and quality oversight protocols. It is the only path to manufacturer warranty eligibility for Pebble Tec finishes in Austin.
H&H has maintained BBB Accreditation with an A+ rating continuously since March 2007 — nearly two decades. BBB Accreditation requires meeting standards for advertising honesty, transparency, responsiveness to complaints, and business integrity.
Verify on BBB.org →Billy Johns is a member of the National Plasterers Council — the pool industry’s primary technical authority on plastering standards, water chemistry protocols, and surface quality. NPC membership signals active engagement with industry best practices, not just years-in-business claims.
Verify NPC Membership →H&H is licensed through the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation (TDLR) as required for pool contractors in Texas. TDLR licensing is verifiable through the state’s public license lookup. Working with an unlicensed pool contractor in Texas eliminates legal recourse if work is defective.
H&H carries full general liability insurance and workers’ compensation coverage. General liability protects your property if damage occurs during work. Workers’ comp ensures you are not liable for crew injuries on your property. Both are required for responsible pool contractors — and not carried by all Austin pool companies.
H&H is certified by all major pool interior finish manufacturers — Pebble Tec, Pebble Sheen, Diamond Brite, Wet Edge Technologies, SGM, NPT, Premix Marbletite, Plaster Logic, and BeadCrete. The only Central Texas contractor certified across every major finish system.
Austin is not a generic pool market. The Edwards Aquifer hard water, the split between Blackland Prairie clay soils in the east and limestone bedrock in the Hill Country west, and the thermal extremes between February freezes and July heat — these conditions affect how pool surfaces age, fail, and need to be maintained in ways that only emerge from years of market-specific experience.
H&H has worked through every Austin-specific challenge: the post-2021 freeze damage wave, the long drought-cycle coping failures in eastern suburbs, the scale accumulation conditions on Lakeway and Lake Travis properties, the Williamson County 300+ ppm groundwater hardness that creates some of the most aggressive pool surface conditions in the state.
Austin’s primary water source runs 200–400+ ppm calcium hardness — up to twice the national average in Williamson County communities. H&H startup chemistry guidance is calibrated per water source, not per zip code average.
East Austin, Manor, Hutto, and Pflugerville pools sit on highly expansive clay. H&H budgets for structural prep upfront on clay-zone pools — crack routing, fitting inspection, mortar bed assessment — rather than presenting it as a post-drain surprise.
West Austin and Hill Country pools on limestone terrain have different failure profiles — less shell movement but harder groundwater and more severe calcium scaling. H&H specifies finishes and grout systems matched to each zone’s actual conditions.
H&H serves the greater Austin metro (Travis, Williamson, Hays, Bastrop counties), San Antonio and Bexar County, the Hill Country corridor including Fredericksburg, Boerne, and New Braunfels, and the DFW metro. Headquartered on Ranch Road 12, Dripping Springs, TX 78620.

Every Austin pool renovation project starts with a free on-site inspection. We visit the pool in person before quoting, provide a written itemized estimate, and answer your questions honestly — including whether a repair might be sufficient instead of a full renovation.
H&H does not provide phone estimates. Pool condition varies too significantly to quote accurately without a physical inspection, and phone estimates from pool contractors almost always either understate scope or contain exclusions that surface as surprises after the pool is drained.
Call us at 512-264-1979 or use the contact form to request a free on-site estimate. We schedule estimates throughout the Austin metro Monday through Friday.
H&H visits every pool in person before quoting. Free estimate, written scope, no pressure. Billy, Joseph, and the H&H team have been doing this in Austin since 2004.
